"The trials and tribulations of refuge life."

“Coming to live in a refuge has challenged my understanding of refuge life. I believe that I would have felt more confident about coming here sooner had I known then what I know now.

Communal living is not easy and it is difficult to maintain our family unit with our own activities and routines when there is so much going on. I worry that the children will pick up bad or inappropriate behaviour from others. Mealtimes are hectic when so many are using one kitchen and there is usually a queue for the washing machine.

However, we have met some wonderful people, and it is comforting to be around those who understand and are compassionate. I feel as though I have been supported and helped through some very difficult times.”
