FACT: Domestic Abuse accounts for one quarter of all violent crimes.

FACT: One in six men will experience Domestic Abuse.

FACT: For every 3 victims of domestic abuse; 2 will be female and 1 will be male.

FACT: domestic abuse is still seriously under-reported, but the police receive one call a minute reporting violent attacks in the home.

FACT: 1 man is killed every 12 days as a result of domestic abuse.

FACT: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE WITH DOMESTIC ABUSE!!

HOW CAN WE HELP

Boston Woman’s Aid offers advice and support through encouragement and understanding with a non-judgemental attitude. We provide a confidential service through skilled workers who have a wide range of knowledge and offer:


  • Confidentiality
  • Advice on domestic abuse issues
  • Practical and emotional support
  • safe place to stay
  • Advice on legal issues
  • Information on housing matters
  • Advice on money problems
  • Telephone support
  • Outreach facility
  • A listening ear and space to talk

Male Abuse

Boston Woman’s Aid has extended the outreach service and helpline service to male victims of domestic abuse. There are few support services and we want you to know that the same confidential service is available to you. Please ring 01205 311 272.

So, What is Domestic Abuse?

Domestic abuse is the physical, emotional, sexual, or mental abuse of one person by another, with whom they have had an intimate relationship. It is rarely a one-off event and tends to escalate in frequency and severity over time. It can be:

  1. Physical and can include slapping, punching, beating, kicking, knife wounds – often leading to permanent injuries and sometimes death.
  2. Sexual which could include being forced to have sex against your will, sexual degradation, forcing sex in ways that hurt and abuse you.
  3. Emotional & Mental including constant criticism such as:
  • Telling you that you are useless
  • Humiliating you
  • Telling you that you are ugly
  • Intimidation
  • Threats
  • Bullying
  • Being locked in or kept in isolation away from family and friends
  • Not allowing you money/food/sleep and freedom
  • Being made a prisoner in your own home
